Anyone in a small business will understand when what I mean when I talk about the question: Why? Why go through the struggle of trying to survive and keep a business going? Why risk everything on a dream that has a huge chance of failing? Why work 100 hours a week for no or very little money? Why?
Well I can tell you that there are very good reasons and last night for me was one of them. We came together at the bar last night to help raise some money to pay for the final expenses of a friends mother who just passed away. The family needed help. Like its not bad enough to suddenly lose your mom, but then to be faced with expenses you have no idea how your pay. It's too much to handle alone. That is where our extended family comes in...we set out with a goal to raise $900. The final count was almost $1400! You could feel the relief of the family and even in a time of great sorrow there was great joy. Oprah would call it "joy rising" and I am telling you now that those moments of pure joy make it all worth it.
Business have a great deal of responsibility in this world. They supply jobs, taxes and of course products and services. But, the greatest responsibility is to honor the gratidude and love of the people who support them. My dream has never been to be rich or to be able to retire and not work so much..my dream is simply to have as many moments like last night as I can while I am here. You all are a part of making my dreams come true and I thank you with all my heart.
