I have had several people comment on our new discussion group, Theology on Tap, and most of the comments have come with a very blank look. This is a program that Tim Meadows of Holy Trinity spoke with me about over a year ago. He thought it was a great idea to go out into a comfortable non-intimidating place and talk with people about spirituality if they wanted. This is not a come to the bar and get converted thing. But it is an open discussion about things like religion, spirituality and faith. Tim's schedule has not allowed him to facilitate the group, but he did send TroyAnn by to speak with me about giving it a try.
I am excited to offer this program. There are people in our community that don't feel comfortable going to "church" and they may not have anyone to talk too about these types of subjects. The minute you mention religion or politics in a bar someone always says they are taboo subjects. Well we thought we would try and change that! This is not a self help group or radical religious fanatics! It is a group of intelligent adults talking and sharing ideas. Its purpose is to provoke thoughts and exchange ideas.
For many people the bar is not just a place to go party, It becomes akin to going home to spend time with family and It is where friendships develop and a since of belonging comes to be. It is not always about drinking, but more about feeling a part of something. We welcome the opportunity be a part of this program and hope any of you that would like to participate join us on Thursdays at 6:30p.
Thank you,
Tami
